Intent
I wanted to create a turn-based prototype for a mash up of Baldurs Gate 3’s gameplay and Cyberpunk 2077’s mechanics and setting. Giving 2 players access to multiple types of weapons found in the cyberpunk universerse, such as the Smart SMG featured in the video above.
Combat
I focused a lot on the player’s combat capabilities, I wanted to make it feel like the player was following the rules of tabletop game. I gave the player actions and bonus actions, as well as a movement speed of 30m per turn or 60m if the player gives up their action for a dash. I also made spots for characters to take cover with directional protection, allowing players and enemies to properly flank. If I had more time, I would have improved the initiative order and allow for enemies to detect combat and join the fight in their proper place.
Weapons
I had a lot of fun working on the weapon mechanics for the game, and posing the character to properly match the weapon they are holding. I created a chance to hit system for each round fired by the player, mimicking 20 sided dice rolls with modifiers to change chance to hit, such as the target being in cover. The Smart SMG was definitely the biggest challenge, but also the most satisfying to get working. If I had more time, I would have made some cyber upgrades.
