Intent

I wanted to create a prototype for a first person horror game, with sound being a major feature. I was able to create a distance-based sound detection system for the enemies combined with different sound levels for the player’s movement stance.

I used the Unreal pawn sensing component, but created my own small formula to account for sound drop off over a max detectable distance of 1000u.

Combat

I designed the weapon system to detect which limb was hit on zombies in order
to further develop as a limb crippling system. The head is the only spot on the zombie that will be a fatal shot, and it only takes one.

Environment

I wanted to take up as little screen space with UI as I could so I made both ammo and door prompts in the world space. I also created a level space that allowed me to experiment with lighting and atmosphere, the completely dark areas with a free roaming zombie in it allows for additional tension as you try to find it.
